praise: my dad got a good report from the eye doctor this morning! praise the Lord!!!!! brother's school has full power again.
prayer: the daughter is still not quite right after her shots.
playfulness: tonight, we had peas for supper. the son announced that they were grapes. when we told them that they were peas his response was "on saturday, probably they be grapes."
i've been telling the son that he needs to make a choice to obey when i tell him to do something. this evening, we heard him saying "woody, you need to choose to obey."
right now, the son is pretending he is in the elevator (corner of the upstairs room).

praise: my parents got back safely from florida.
prayer: doctor wants an ultrasound to be done on the daughter's hip-said the socket might not be deep enough. if caught by 6 months, it can be corrected without surgery. my friend, debbie, just lost her mom. brother's college is still without electricity in some buildings due to jeanne. the husband is speaking in junior high church tonight.
playfulness: the daughter is getting up on her side regularly now-not too much longer until she can roll over.
the daughter is 16 lbs. 6 3/4 oz. and 26 inches long.

praise: the husband's stitches (or as the son calls them - spaghetti) were able to be taken out tonight and the cut has healed well.
prayer: my parents are grounded in florida and my brother is "locked in" his dorm room because of jeanne. pray that my parents flight for tomorrow night won't be postponed for a second time.
playfulness: we were commenting that the daughter should have a four month birthday party today. the son decided we should have a birthday party tonight. so, we had our planned meal but called it the party. one problem, the son kept saying "i want my birthday party" to the point of crying out of frustration. now, two hours later, we have yet to figure out what his "birthday party" is. it obviously wasn't what we were thinking. thankfully, he went to bed-maybe he'll forget about it tonight. we've met with a few of these language barriers this week. generally, they either get figured out or overlooked, but this was an intense one. the husband and i even asked him to show us his "birthday party" and asked him many questions to try to figure it out. maybe someday.
the daughter seems to be in the starting stages of getting her first two teeth. her gums are swollen (looks like blisters) and she's been crankier than her usual good natured self.
today, when i peeked in on the son in his ss class, he saw me. after i left, i was told that he said repetitively "that's my mommy." i'm proud of him that he did not cry as some would.
the son received a "laptop" today. really, it's an old magnetic board that opens up like a laptop (hence the new name). it has two sets of alphabet letters and a set of numbers in it. he has thoroughly enjoyed the "new" toy, along with the (new to him) sesame street colorform set.

praise: i had my cell phone last night. bennys took car of getting the car towed. mom and dad v. are letting us borrow their car while they are out of town. this all worked out at the right time.
prayer: our car is in the shop (for the 4th time in the past 10 months). hopefully, this won't be too costly. we just need a new (to us) vehicle. parents are leaving for florida at 4 today. planning on driving through the night.
playfulness: vote the new poll!
i've finally conquered meatloaf. the first two attempts in our married life were dismal failures. i finally found a recipe that works. thank you kraftfoods.com!
car died at kroger last night. worked fine on the way there, but wouldn't start after i shopped. unfortunately, it wasn't just the battery this time. still had juice, but couldn't get going.
the daughter is her crib just talking up a storm. the nieces this morning thought she was crying.
the son took his "candy" cards with him to bed last night. when i went in at 2 to get little one-he still had them in his hand.
the daughter picked up a toy intentionally and played with it for the first time yesterday. very cute. got pictures (have a similar one of the son).

praise: my mom bailed me out of one of my chores-she made the muffins for me that i was supposed to take to Women of the Word. Thanks Mom!!
prayer: we are all very tired. doctor found a tear and some holes in the retina of my dad's good eye. gave him laser surgery and will check it again in 2 weeks. please pray that he will not need further surgery on it, and he will retain the vision that he does have in that eye.
playfulness: grandma and grandpa vandervort brought the son a pumpkin and mentioned something about me using it for cooking. i guess he figured if i was going to use it to cook, it must be yummy. i find him licking it from time to time.
the daughter has decided that she likes the pointer finger of her right hand better than her pacifier. some good, some bad to that. i will never be able to permenantly get it away from her, but, on the other hand, i will never have to crawl under the crib at 2 in the morning to retreive it (at least i hope not).

praise: we were given a small play kitchen set and workbench for the kids-the son loves them!!!!
prayer: diligence and organization for me as i attempt to complete numerous household tasks at once (as well as church related items).
playfulness: the daughter is wearing a six to nine month outfit today (she'll be four months on the 26th).
recently, the son has been mesmerized with the video "chitty chitty bang bang". today, when the "old bamboo" section came up, he was frantically looking for his toy golf club so that he could jig with them. he and his daddy were jigging with the toy golf clubs the other day. i videotaped him jigging with his bat last week, but it's not good enough anymore since daddy used the golf club.
the daughter has really been "talking" up a storm this past week. i used to think that we might get a quiet second child since our first one is so talkative-guess i was wrong. i don't mind though-i will never have to worry about being bored with these two. as i am typing, she is sitting on my lap, frantically waving her arms and kicking her feet while trying to get the keys. she is also telling me all about it.
yesterday, one of my three year olds (a girl) was blowing on her arm making some rather un-feminine sounds. when i mentioned this bit of humor to her mother, i was informed that this same child wishes to be the wicked witch of the west for halloween this year, stating "i'll get you my pretty" as she made her request. what makes this even funnier is that she is adorable and was named a very feminine name because her mom was hoping for a child that would fit it. personally, i thouroughly enjoy this child.

praise: my sister and brother-in-law have been letting us borrow their swing until they need it for little phillip. speaking of little phil, he should be arriving sometime in the next 8 weeks.
prayer: seems like the son's tossing of the cookies yesterday wasn't just because of his pacifier-he repeated last night after eating. he was quite excited about the "special pop" (ginger ale) that his dad bought for him though.
playfulness: last night, the son got right up in the daughter's face and just started laughing. she thought it was great and smiled and laughed right back at him. she usually lights up whenever he is around.

praise: my brother-in-law's trial period at sword of the Lord is over-he has been offered the job!!!
prayer: the son.
playfulness: the daughter made my day today. i picked her up from her crib, and as i began to walk away from it, she very clearly made the sounds "ma-ma". i know that she doesn't know what she did- but it sure thrilled my heart!
thankfully, the previous incident came after the following one. the son's paci had a crack in it-so we pitched it this morning, thinking, it's time he gave it up anyway. naptime came up, and so did lunch (due to begin upset). soo...i gave him a spare "auburn paci". funny thing is, he wasn't even crying very much.

10 September 2004
praise: we have been offered a new mattress and box springs-ours gives me backaches. we get to have papa john's for supper tonight.
prayer: dave has a ct scan on his neck today-pray that there is nothing wrong. derek and amanda are driving home today/tomorrow because of a mandatory evacuation at clearwater christian. pray for safety and wisdom.
playfulness: as i was working in the kitchen this morning, i heard the kids concocting a surprise for me. the oldest niece was instructing the younger ones on what to do. they then called and said, "aunt nicki, we have a surprise for you." when i went into the living room, the son was standing in a way so that you could still see his head behind the couch, the nieces then proceeded to jump up from behind the couch to yell "surprise". they were quite proud of themselves as i "screamed in fright" at the tremendous surprise, so they tried it two more times.
today, the son put a big clear plastic bowl over the daughter's head. i thought for sure she was going to cry-but she actually smiled for a moment. i guess she's becoming used to his "torture".

8 September 2004
praise: we had a safe trip down and back from ohio, with only a few incidents and screaming episodes.
prayer: allergies seem to be hitting our family.
playfulness: today the daughter sat up by herself for a little over a minute. i was quite impressed. she is only 3 1/2 months old.
also today, the son strapped himself into the daughter's bouncer. he then proceeded to try to get out which resulted in him walking around the house with the bouncer strapped to him. pictures to be up soon at www.daveandnic.com .
i am so thankful for family. i have the privilege of watching my nieces during the day. today, as i was listening to three separate conversations going on during their play time, i realized how fortunate i am that i get to stay at home and be with the kids. not every lady has that opportunity.
