birthday bash

we had the big family birthday bash this past saturday (also auburn's real birthday). let's just say, the weather wasn't as bad as it could have been. it didn't rain during the party time. i've determined that i can plan events-but don't ask me to execute them. i'll leave that part up to someone else. =)

anyway-the following picture shows what the kids found when they woke up in the morning (there were more packages added to them once all the relatives arrived). it looked like christmas-without the green and red paper.

auburn had a few more since it was her actual day. she was allowed to open her big box in the morning. she woke up about 30 minutes after landon did-and her sleeping in drove him nuts!! he kept asking if we would get her up/when she was going to get out of bed.

here are the cakes that we had. i made the princess one, and my mom borrowed the r2d2 pan from a friend to make landon's cake.

we had quite the crowd-even my grandparents made it up for the event. i think they loved seeing all the great-grandkids, and we loved seeing them.

in the background on the left side of the previous pic-you can see the middle pole of the canopy that we borrowed. we didn't have all of the right parts to make the center pole useful-so...amanda, mom and i came up with our own method of making it work. we stuffed a stick down in one part and up in another since they wouldn't join, then we surrounded the non-joining parts with more sticks, a tall piece of lumber and packing tape. believe it or not-it held just fine. oh-we also put 2 bags of topsoil around the base to hold it steady. dave started singing "what this world needs is a few more rednecks..."  =)

kids received a new swingset for one of their gifts.

they also received a "truckload" of other gifts-to many for me to list. they thoroughly enjoyed the day. thank you family for making it so special for them! =)

new poll!!!

hey everyone-i put up an opinion poll. i know people have various thoughts on potty-training, i just wanted to see how the views stack up.

auburn has officially had 2 days in a row with no accidents. she is determined to get to wear her new dora pants that grandma smith got her. i hope she makes it. she has to stay dry 3 days. we'll see. the stickers from great-grandma hickox are also a big help-she gets to put one on her chart every time she uses the restroom and is dry. i guess the whole potty-training thing is a big prayer request. i'd really like her to be done!!! i've determined that i am a horrible trainer-so if you're venturing into the potty training stage-don't ask me!  =)

backyard

praise: our backyard is no longer an embarrassment.

prayer: one of our neighbors has been having very bad health problems. please pray for more open doors to share (or remind her of) God's goodness. she brings up "church" when we talk, as if that is all that matters. i've tried to bring up true salvation, but i have not had a clear opportunity.

playfulness: i've got sooooooo much to blog about. i'll try to do this blog and the birthday bash tonight.

here are some pics from years past of what our backyard originally looked like. the first picture was taken in may of 2004. you can see all of the wild berry bushes at the fence line. they were big enough that they almost meshed in with the heinous tree.

this next picture gives you an idea of how dark and gloomy most of our yard was.

this next one was in january of this year-before the tree was removed. the brush had already been removed in the summer of 2005.

the following two pictures are of our backyard now. i love it!! we still have some work to do-but it is such an improvement over what it used to be.

anyone want to come play?

happy 5th birthday, Landon!

praise: we received our wood chips (for free) on thursday!

prayer: we need to finish cleaning up the backyard, and laying the woodchips down, by friday!

playfulness: landon turned 5 on thursday. we made it a BIG ordeal. when he woke up (or more correctly-woke us up), he opened some presents. one of the presents was a 3 foot plush superman. then, he took brownies to church on thursday evening.

friday, was his friend b-day party. we started off with a balloon light saber fight in the front yard. dave put landon's darth vader head on-the kids loved it.

then, the boys played "find the jedi" (each had to find 2 beanbags with their name on them).

they then went downstairs to decorate their gift-bags. after that we played "yoda's helper". they had to knock down darth vader and 5 stormtroopers (on pop cans) with the beanbags. at that point, the pizza arrived.

we then played a version of pin the tail on the donkey (using darth vader). next was cake and ice cream.

then gifts and playtime.

we have one more birthday party to go this month. this coming saturday is auburn's big day, and the family party for all three kids. should be lots of fun!

petting farm

praise: dave finished destroying our fire pit in the backyard. we took all the bricks out to the front of our house last night, and they were picked up by the city this morning! one more task done on our way to the "backyard playground!"

prayer: dalton still has a yucky nose. please pray that it clears up soon!

playfulness: yesterday was our trip to the local petting farm. only one other family besides ours showed up-but it was a lot of fun. the day was a little gloomy-but we weren't being burned and sweating in the sunshine. please endure all of the pictures. i'm sure you'll live. =)

visiting the sheep.

visiting the ponies.

visiting the pigs.

i have to admit, i didn't like the feel of the pigs working on my shoes. no wonder auburn flipped out. "farmer bill" had to pick her up because she was going nuts. "the piggies are eating me!!" landon did a great job. he just stood there and watched them. you can tell in the picture that he was smiling.

visiting the rabbits.

visiting the goats.

dalton started pointing while we were at the farm. he's always pointed with his whole hand before.

visiting the birds/chickens.

landon did so well with the animals this time. last time we visited the farm-he chased the cat the whole time and ignored the farm animals.

i love the way dalton is checking the rooster out.

more outdoor pics.

pictures of landon

after i posted the pictures of auburn, i scrolled through the last few posts and realized there is very little of my lan-man up on my blog. he has just grown up so much this past year. he doesn't do as many silly things, or new things like he used to as a result. i can't believe that he is turning 5 one week from today. okay-i'm starting to get sentimental. i almost felt like crying there for a second. anyway...kindergarten round-up is just around the corner. he's excited, but i think he is starting to become a little nervous about it. so am i!!!!  =)

here are some pics. in this first one, landon had decided that it was a good idea to rub red popsicle all over his face. i was taking care of dalton, and i returned to the kitchen to find him like this. i guess he was trying to be darth maul!  =)

he still loves his star wars things!!! next friday, he's having his first friend birthday party-and yes, it will be a star wars theme.

dave will roll his eyes at this...but...here's landon the detective going "under cover" (ha ha).

even though he's crawling through the grass-i just think he looks so big physically in this picture. he comes up to about three inches below my shoulder, and he weighs half my weight. we are predicting him to pass me by the end of second grade.

of course, i have more pics, but i need to go to bed. have a great night!

pictures of auburn

praise: we are getting a second vehicle. praise the Lord for tax returns!!! =)

prayer: my friend Jennifer, lost her unsaved uncle this week. she tried several times to see him in order to witness to him-but was never given the opportunity. please pray for her and her family at this time.

playfulness: i have soooooo many pictures to post and stories to tell, but, as usual, i am out of time. i hope you enjoy these pictures of auburn that i took last week. please check out the photo gallery section of our site for pictures of the little man on his first birthday last week.

dave (in all his spare time) is going to redo these pics leaving the color of the flowers and the rest of the pic black and white. we are going to hang them in the living room. i'll post them once he does the work.
