check-ups

praise: kids' check-ups went well today. said overall they look good.

prayer: landon's tonsils are swollen again. he's on another antibiotic.

playfulness: here are the kids measurements.
landon: 46.5 lbs. 43.5 inches
auburn: 30 lbs. 37 inches
dalton: 10 lbs. 11 oz (and he's not a month yet-looks like he's right on track to equal landon's 14 lbs. at his two month check-up)

landon needs to go see an ear, nose and throat doctor. he's had a lot of throat infections this year, and he had snoring/breathing problems during the night. dr. is a little concerned about this. we had talked about this at a previous appointment, but now she wants us to do something about it.

update on the avon instant manicure. mine started chipping a small amount on saturday (3 days after application). for me, this is actually a very long time for nail polish to last without chipping. you need to take into account the number of diapers i change per day, washing of hands, house cleaning, etc. so in my opinion-this stuff works great. it doesn't look horrible even right now-6 days after application-just small chips at the top. the avon speed-dry nail polish usually starts chipping within 6 hours of application for me.

she's two!!!

praise: auburn seems to be feeling much better, and dalton is over his cold.

prayer: landon is still not quite himself. maybe tomorrow. mom and jon smith are not feeling well either.

playfulness: my "baby" girl is two today!!!! forget the fact that she's been acting two for about a month and a half now. she's official. i'm glad she's two - i don't have to get whole milk anymore!!! (at least not for a year.) you ask her how old she is-she'll tell you two, then her eyes will light up and she'll say "bubblegum". dave told her about 2 weeks ago that she could have bubblegum when she turned 5. she was convinced she could have it when she turned two. so... dave let her and landon try bubblegum today. they didn't get to chew it for long, but it was a good first round-no swallowing, gagging, etc.

dalton is putting on the pudge. very cute. he also tends to be quite smiley.

auburn received dora sheets today. she loves them. dave's response was the same as for landon's superman sheets "bed sheets, who invited that kid?!?"

tomorrow is landon's and auburn's combined family birthday party. should be fun. not many will be there, but oh well. mom and jon can't come up because they're sick, and my parents are in florida. it will be derek and amanda and my sister and family. kids will have fun with their cousins. of course, there will be cake and ice cream-so auburn will be okay. every time you mentioned to her today that it was her birthday-she'd smile at you and say "cake!"  i'm being cheap and making one 9x13-decorating 1/2 of it with superman stuff and the other 1/2 with cinderella stuff. we don't need 2 cakes around the house.

i'll write more tomorrow night hopefully. squirmy (dalton) is doing his thing in the crib and winding up for a good yell. it's time for his 3rd dinner of the night. gotta go.

babies

praise: dr. called this morning and said that landon does not have strep. yeah!!!

prayer: auburn is still on the antibiotic, and landon is trying to get over a virus. please pray that dalton does not get sick. he feels a little warm right now. i'm hoping he doesn't start running a fever again.

playfulness: landon and auburn have played house for the past 3 days. landon even comes home from work and wants a kiss from his wife. they also enjoy stuffing teddy bears up auburn's shirt, and then she has babies. landon asked me today why i don't want 10 babies. hmmm... i wonder. can you imagine 10 kids in our house?!? i asked landon where we would put them all. he thinks we can get that many beds in his bedroom. ha, ha. i told landon that i think we could manage with 5 kids (3 of one gender, 2 of another), but that i really am happy with the three kids that i have. he thinks we need to have a lot more.

dalton is doing well, except for being a little warm this morning. i found him on his belly again. this time at 2:30 in the morning. it still amazes me that he can do the partial roll already. i think he's going to be more like his brother than just looks (for example, energy...). scary thought. do i have enough energy to keep up with them? time will tell, but i certainly do not feel like it right now. i'm a little on the tired side today. thankfully, i think i'll be ablet o sneak in a nap during naptime. it's nice that all three kids go down at the same time.

on the business side of things... you ladies that read this blog should check out avon's new instant manicure!!! it's dry nail enamel that you rub on your nails. no mess!!!!! it's on special right now for $4.99 a set or two sets for $8.99. if interested, go to www.youravon.com/nsmith2280, log in and check out the campaign 11 brochure-pg.4 & 5.

fishy names

praise: we're almost halfway done with dalton's "house arrest."

prayer: auburn is being treated for strep. landon woke up complaining of a sore throat and coughing. one look in his throat revealed many blisters. fun times. guess he'll be heading back to the doctor's office monday morning.

playfulness: the remaining four fish have been named. they names are: owen, dingo, gunch, and xena.

had auburn at the doctor's office yesterday afternoon. it's pretty sad when you walk in and the nurses say "hi, auburn, what are you in for today?"  all of the nurses working that shift had to personally come in to our room and see her. some of the personel even asked about the other two kids. i think we've been there a little too much this year!

well, that's my fun for the moment. dalton's crying.

tears

playfulness, part 3:  we had our first fish parting. brownie died shortly after being moved to the aquarium. landon was devastated, and wanted to keep him in the tank even though he was dead. thankfully, dave is good with handling landon in such situations. he's okay now, but has declared he doesn't want anymore brown fish-only gold.

fish

playfulness, part 2: landon went to a "carnival" put on by my moms group today. one of his prizes was 5 fish. dave came home to set up landon's new aquarium (from us) after landon came back from his festivities. while explaining to landon that the fish get breakfast, lunch and supper, landon asked "do they get pop for supper, too?" (we allow the kids to have a small amount of pop, only at supper time.)

rolling over

praise: dalton was acting a little lethargic yesterday. i was getting concerned because he was whining/acting the same as he did the day he was admitted in the hospital. last night, he perked up around 9:30. thank you Lord!!!

prayer: please continue to pray for dalton. it doesn't seem as though we are completely over whatever it was that he had. doctors did say he seemed healthy when we went for his hospital follow-up. he had regained his birth weight and then put on 6 more ounces.

playfulness: this morning, i put dalton on his side for his nap. when i came up an hour or so later to check on him-he was on his stomach. a little early, but this is actually the third time he has done it.

landon received superman sheets from my parents last night. he was thrilled!!!! all dave could say was "bed sheets!?! who invited that kid?"  (a quote from ham on toy story 1)

if you see landon anytime in the next few days, he will probably proudly tell you that he's 4 now. when he was getting ready to go to church last night, he excitedly told me that he was going to get to go the the 4's class. after a few shed tears and a little explaining, he finally understood that he had to wait until his whole class moved up to the 4's together.

last night while i was pumping, auburn grabbed my extra pump and decided she needed to do it, too. pics may be posted of her at some point, but.... who knows when i will ever get around to learning how to do it. =)

i will write more later, as i remember things.

four years old!!!

praise: dalton is doing well. still has a little cold, but at least we're not in the hospital.

prayer: please pray that dalton gets over his case of the sniffles. he also has a rash on his face that the doctor says is nothing to worry about, but i have to confess-i'm not so sure that it's not an allergic reaction to something. time will tell.

playfulness: can you believe that landon is 4 today?!? i know that i can hardly believe it. wow!!! i'm still adjusting to the thought of having three kids, let alone that this is my last full year with the oldest one. amazing.

landon had a friend spend the night for the first time last night. he and andrew conn get along great and completely wore each other out. they went to ceaserland for supper last night (with daddy) and then to baskin-robbins for ice cream. today, mom and dad vandervort took landon out to eat for lunch and then purchased him a buzz lightyear light chaser toy at the disney store. so far he's had a great day.

wow!

praise: dalton is a good baby. i think i can safely say (at this point) he is a better baby than the other 2 were.

prayer: please pray that we all continue to get better. i checked landon's throat this morning, and it still looks a little read. he still has 6 days on the antibiotic.

playfulness: i was standing in the kitchen this morning watching the 2 older kids eat, and rocking the little one, when the thought struck me, "man! i've got three kids-what am i thinking?!?" that thought overwhelmed me for a minute-then i looked at the kids again and realized how blessed i am.

dalton seems to have a different personality from either of the other two, which is probably a good thing! =) i know it is probably early to tell, but so far, he is much easier to care for. except for the "minor" situations of this past week. i'm enjoying the fact that i can put dalton down for a nap while he is still awake, and he can put himself to sleep. he also sleeps for longer periods of time than the other two ever did. he has practically put himself on a 2/2.5 hour schedule. i find myself watching the clock, thinking he should be up, but realizing that he's still okay. only thing is-he has an active/hungry time from 11pm to 2am. it's a little tiring, but hopefully we can get that part of his schedule adjusted soon.

anyway...all three are down for a nap-so i should probably do the same thing to maintain my sanity!

back home

praise: we are out of the hospital!!! at this point, it appears that dalton just had a "bug" from one of his siblings, along with the jaundice. doctors are still watching the blood cultures for another 24 hours. if anything shows up, we'll be going back to the hospital, but this is unlikely.

prayer: please continue to pray for dalton to stay well. auburn has a runny nose at this time, but we're pretty sure it is allergies. doctors have asked that we not take dalton anywhere public for 5 more weeks. if you are wanting to see him, please give us a call and we'll arrange a time for you to come for a short visit.

hello world!

praise: dalton barrett is finally here!

prayer: please pray for us as we adjust to being a family of 5.

playfulness: some of you have been waiting for my version, so here it is:

we arrived at the hospital at 8:10. now...my expectations of what was going to happen was based on auburn's delivery, which, was far from what happened. i had expected to go in, have my antibiotic that i'm required to have, water broken, and then given the pitosin and have the baby by noon. what really happened was: get there, find out that they weren't sure of the doctor's orders, doctor in a meeting until 11:00. so at 11:30 given first round of antibiotic, told i would need two rounds and the second one couldn't be given until 2:30. because of the second round not being given until 2:30, my water couldn't be broken until 3:15. thankfully, they were able to give me the pitosin early though. so... all in all, i really was only in active labor from 3:15 to 4:27. not much to complain about there!!!!  =) once i got over the dissappointment of things not happening as i had mentally prepared for, things went well.

anyways, dalton is a cutie. he looks very much like landon did. at some point, we will post comparison pictures. they're quite amazing. dave and i both think that dalton had some differences start to show up today-now that all the wrinkles are disappearing.

kids love him. they woke up-ran out to the living room-and both asked if they could hold him. auburn has declared him "my dalton." he's already had some fun alert times. i love watching him look around.

anyway...i'm feeling a little dizzy (probably due to the fact that i've had about 8 hours of sleep since wednesday morning). think i better go tie up some loose ends and try to get some shut eye.

stay tuned.

exciting day

praise: only one more day!!!

prayer: kids are sick. auburn has a viral infection, and landon has a red throat. just got back from the doctor. they did a throat culture on landon. since i'll be in the hospital delivering the baby tomorrow, they're going to call my mom. crazy times. the best part of all of this-i've been having contractions. they were panicking at the doctor's office that i was going to have the baby right there. (i think my mom was panicking, too). i still don't think i'll go until tomorrow morning after i get some help from the world of drugs, but.... you never do know.

playfulness: while at the doctor's office, landon was pretending he was an alligator and bit auburn on the side. yeah, that looked real good when the doctor checked her rash and asked "what's this?" kids.

anyway, until tomorrow...
